Project Jungle Almost 20 years ago, Fr Peter Mulvany generously donated a patch of land to the school which has been affectionately christened, ‘The Jungle’. ‘The Jungle’ is located at the back of the school behind the old wall, and borders with Moynalvey Manor. Fr. Peter’s vision was to have an outdoor classroom and garden for the children. In collaboration with the Principal, the Parent’s Association have implemented a project to bring Fr. Peter’s dream to fruition. In the summer of 2024 the Jungle, an update began when a tarmaced path around the area was laid.
1st Class have been getting ready for Halloween. We have been busy with Halloween art. We have baked some Halloween brownies today and we will be carving our very own pumpkin tomorrow as the group would’ve planted the seeds as part of the lifecycle of a pumpkin. They are also excited to perform their song at assembly.
In conjunction with Tara and District credit union who kindly donated for planting 3 types of Tulips ( Pretty Woman, Friendship and Stresa) These are currently in full bloom at the front of the school.
The last parent’s association started the project with phase one implemented prior to Sept 2021. This involved ground works clearing, trees felled, boundary fence erected and circular hardcore pathway laid.
By the end of this school year, we hope to have phase 2 implemented: erection of classroom; planting of wild flower area; and sensory area.
Phase 3 is in the planning phase, and we would love to hear your ideas of what you think would work in the area. We’re thinking mud kitchen, balance beams, raised bed for each classroom to grow their own veg, cleaning and painting the walls.
