Scoil Mhuire is a rural country school with 6 mainstream class teachers, 1 full time special education teacher (SET) and 1 shared special education teacher.
Scoil Mhuire is situated in the townland of Moynalvey approx. 4km from Summerhill. Official records for Moynalvey School are date 1844. The school was a one roomed thatched stone and clay building, that school collapsed on the night of the great storm March 18th 1855. A new school was finished in July 1856 which was a 2 room slated school. This building is now vacant and derelict, our current building was built in 1958 and was ready for student occupation in Sept 1959.
Scoil Mhuire Moynalvey is a Catholic, Primary school that strives to provide a well-ordered, caring, happy and secure environment where children can enjoy their schooling and which facilitates the nurturing of each pupil’s full, educational potential. Teachers and parents are partners in the children’s education, with co-operation and communication between home and school being vital ingredients in the educational process. We share the same aim – the well being of the children in our care.
Our school crest comprises of a small number of elements with deep meaning behind them. Shield- The Shield symbolizes steadfast principles, commitment, loyalty and protection, which are afforded us by taking up the spiritual “Shield of Faith” in Christ. The Four Masters” say the name Moynalvey is derived from a woman’s name “Ailbhe” as Magh – Ailbhe or Ailbhes Plain.
