Board of Management

Here you will find information on our Schools Board of Management

The Board of Management (BoM) is the body of persons or the person(s) appointed by the patron to manage the school on behalf of the patron. The patron of S.N. Mhuire Moynalvey is the Roman Catholic Bishop of Meath, Thomas Deenihan.

The functions of the BoM are set out in section 15 of the Education Act, 1998 which provides, inter alia, that it shall be the duty of the Board to “manage the school on behalf of the patron and for the benefit of the students and their parents and to provide or cause to be provided an appropriate education for each student at the school for which that board has responsibility”.

Section 15 of the Education Act, 1998 also provides that a “board shall perform the functions conferred on it and on a school by this Act”.

The BoM comprises of

  • Two direct nominees of the patron (including the Chairperson)
  • Two parents elected from parents of children who are enrolled and have commenced attendance at the school
  • The principal of the school (who also acts as the Secretary) and one other serving teacher
  • Two extra members proposed by these nominees.

Extra Information

Correspondence with the BoM can only be done on an individual basis. In regards to parents(s)/guardian(s), an individual is either a parent/guardian or both parent(s)/guardian(s) of a child/children enrolled in the school. The BoM can neither discuss nor respond to:

  • Correspondence that is not signed/anonymous.
  • Correspondence that is signed from a group e.g. “2nd Class Parents” or “Concerned Parents.”
    • The exception to this is the Parents’ Association however traditionally this correspondence will signed by the Chairperson and/or Secretary on behalf of the PA.
  • Correspondence that is signed by more than one family.

In regards to issues with the school personnel, it is important that the following steps take place:

  1. The parent(s)/guardian(s) speak to the teacher.
  2. The parent(s)/guardian(s) speak to the principal.
  3. The parent(s)/guardian(s) speak to the chairperson.
The underlying principle of this communication should be with the aim of resolving the issue.

The steps can be found in the Revised Parental Complaint Procedures (November 2023).

  2. Halloween to Christmas
  3. January to February Mid-term
  4. February Mid-term to Easter
