Students in Moynalvey NS had an incredible day out on the 21st of March 2024.
As part of the PE, history and geography curricula, students headed to Croke Park. Croke Park is the GAA Headquarters. Aside from being an 82000 capacity stadium, Croke Park also has a fantastic museum. Students were given a tour of the stadium, seeing many of the famous sites such as the Dressing Rooms used on All-Ireland final day, the Presidents seat in the Hogan Stand and the VIP press boxes. Students then visited the museum part of the tour. Aside from the history of the GAA, students practiced some of the skills, honing in on shooting, reaching up for a throw-up and pucking a sliotar. A sea of green and yellow (Meath) and maroon and white (Moynalvey and Westmeath) descended on Croker, not to mention 2 rogue LillyWhites supporters from over the border in Kildare!
But the tour wasn’t finished… After a quick lunch, students headed off to Santry to JumpZone. Although JumpZone had been on the cards since January, students were kept in the dark on this part of the tour as part of a surprise! Students went for bounce with our teachers and parents joining them. It could be argued that some teachers, particular Ms. McCormack and Ms. Curley (to name but a few) enjoyed JumpZone more than the kids! Mr. Brennan also found a chair perfect for his office as well! Nonetheless a great day was had by all and no doubt parents in Moynalvey had no problem getting students to sleep that night!
Special thanks to everyone who was involved with the tour. Our fabulous secretary Nicola who organised everything behind the scenes, our teaching staff for giving up time before and after school to run the tour, our parental volunteers who gave up their day to help out, Lynams for ensuring we arrived at all our destination and the staff of Croke Park and JumpZone who were amazing with the students. Finally I would like to thank our students. They represented Moynalvey NS so well and we can say with confidence that we could bring them anywhere again in the future!
